KBR68H, Manado - Manado City Government, North Sulawesi, is requiring all civil government employees to preserve the environment by managing their household waste. Manado city government claims this move could protect and preserve the environment.
Mayor Manado Vicky Lumentut said civil servants should be an example and a model in their communities by preserving the environment. According to Lumentut, specific liabilities of civil servants will be specified in mayor_s regulations.
"This requirement consists firstly of household waste, particularly through organic and inorganic waste sorting in order for usable compost to be composted and inorganic garbage collection which that can be thrown away in the nearest trash.
Secondly, the establishment of water catchment wells in household yards." said Lumentut.
Lumentut said this environmental preservation program should be implemented by all civil servants in the city of Manado. According to Lumentut, the
municipal government will also prohibit employees to use motorized vehicles on
Fridays. He claims the aim is to engender cleaner and healthier air. The
car-free Friday program for civil servants will be implemented next week.
