KBR68H, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo claims to have harnessed all the powers of the government to address and help victims of flooding in the capital.
In addition to establishing posko-posko [relief posts providing logistical support], the city has already installed a water pump at several points in Jakarta, such as the Daan district, West Jakarta. According to Widodi, flood victims in this area have become a top priority.
"Yes, this is certainly fieldwork. Which means, I checked last night, an inflatable boat is on the ground, health posts are ready, the kitchen is generally well prepared, areas for refugees are large enough in most places, but there are still one or two that still must be expanded. Measures like this we have prepared, but coping with the flooding is medium and long term," said Jokowi.
Previously, the National Disaster Management Agency, Sutopo Purwo Nugruho, predicted heavy rain surges to hit Jakarta's 60-point soak flood-prone areas.
Jakarta needs tens of trillions of dollars in funding to address the flooding problem. This amount of funding is needed to stabilize the river, water channels, river dredging, and for the preparation of infiltration wells.
