Human Rights Watch have called for an investigation into the deaths of thousands of protesters suppressed by a violent crackdown in Myanmar in 1988.

A public ceremony to commemorate 25 years since the tragic events show openness in the country continues to improve military rule ended in 2011.

But despite positive changes those responsible for past atrocities have never been held accountable.
