Welcome to the 1st World Street Food Festival in Singapore.
Singapore will host the World Street Food Festival at Pit Building and Paddock F1 from May 31st until June 9th 2013. The first of its kind feast in the world is meant to celebrate the richness and vibrancy of the street food scene from around the world. It also aims to preserve diversity and heritage of street food.
The 1st Congress
The World Street Food Festival was initiated by KF Seetoh, Singapore’s Food Ambassador and a renowned chef. Supported by Singapore Tourism Board, the mission of WSFC is to share and celebrate all aspects of culinary kingdom.
Singapore is chosen as the WSFC host because the country is home to a rich culinary heritage, nourished by their multicultural environment. This mega food feast comprises three major events: World Street Food Jamboree, World Street Food Dialogue and World Street Food Awards.
Around 40 of the world’s best street food masters will gather and showcase their products at this 10-day event. There will be a two-day thought leadership, networking and ideas conference on June 3rd and 4th, and also an awarding event to recognize up to 16 top street industry players of various disciplines from around the world.
The speakers for The World Street Food Dialogue are Anthony Bourdain from the US – he’s a chef, author and TV host; also there’s Johnny Chan, a top China food host and founder of Hong Kong Wine Club. The event will also have William Wongso from Indonesia, a culinary expert and food critique.
Asian Food, World’s Favorite
The World Street Food Congress aims to give international recognition to quietly famous Asian street food icons. Throughout the years, people from all across the countries have recognized Asian street food as world’s most delicious street food.
In 2011, CNN published the “World’s 50 Most Delicious Food. People around the globe has given their votes through polls and from 50s food on the list, Singapore’s legendary laksa and chili crab, Korean bibimbap, Hong Kong’s shrimp dumpling making in to the list. And the most popular Indonesia's Nasi Goreng was ranked the second.
